Dumb question

What are girls planning on wearing to the high school reunion? Dress, skirt or jeans? I have absolutely no idea how dressy to be.

Board Game Night 6/30?

Between being deathly ill last week and the ownership transfer, our house has fallen into a deep pit of filth. Plus, we need to start conducting interviews on Tuesday night. As such, we were wondering if anyone else would like to host board game night. At a minimum, we can't provide food or a clean house. Let us know what you think.

Board Game Night 6/9 CANCELED

We are going to have a stressful day at work tomorrow so we decided it's best to just cancel tomorrow night since we will be so cranky. But hopefully we'll see everyone next week! I think Adam will send out an email for those who don't read the blog, but please help spread the word.

Board Game Night 12/2 **UPDATE-- BACK ON**

So, I'm actually happy to host, but Goldie has my board games and he doesn't get off until late. So if people have an alternate plan, I can host/attend. For now though, board game is canceled.

**UPDATE**
Peter has collected the board games, so board game night is back on.

Lollipops, lip balms and rectal rockets, oh my!

So,I've been in Houston this week for compounding training since I start my new job in a week.

The bad: I have to get up by 4:00 or 4:30 our time every morning for 10-12 hours of class. I'm in Texas. Due to the hurricane, instead of taking 10 minutes to get from the hotel to the center it takes 45 minutes because all the traffic lights are out. And lastly, when I'm around a lot of people with southern accents for too long I start to pick one up again, y'all.

The good: Compounding is so cool! I made my own pineapple lip balm and watermelon lollipops, in addition to a bunch of other stuff. I always knew I liked it, but this week really opened my eyes to just how much stuff compounders can do. It totally turns how I've thought about medicine on its head. We saw examples of how people who would normally need surgery or amputations have been healed by using combinations of medicines in a way that isn't commercially available. Or how cancer/hospice patients who can't swallow anything anymore can just rub on a cream to get their medicines. Or convincing kids to take their medicines because we can put them in a gummy bear form. Did I mention it's cool?

One more day, then it's on a plane home. I can't wait to see my kitties! Oh, and Adam, of course. ;)

And yes, there is such a thing as a rectal rocket and I even have a rubber mold of one to prove it.

Board Game Night 9/16

Since I have a week off, I'm planning on making dinner. I was thinking spaghetti with meatballs, salad and cupcakes. Does that sound okay? I want to make sure I cook enough, so let Adam or me know if you're coming.

Pocketful of Sunshine

I got a pocket,
got a pocket full of sunshine
I've got a love and I know that it's all mine
Do what you want,
but you're never gonna break me,
sticks and stones are never gonna shake me

Take me away
A secret place
A sweet escape
Take me away
Take me away
To better days
Take me away
A hiding place

I got pocket,
Got a pocket full of sunshine
I've got a love and I know that it's all mine
Wish that you could,
but you ain't gonna own me
do anything you can to control me

There's a place that I go
That nobody knows
Where the rivers flow
And I call it home
And there's no more lies
And the darkness is light
And nobody cries
there's only butterflies

The sun is on my side
Take me for a ride
I smile up to the sky
I know I'll be alright

The sun is on my side
Take me for a ride
I smile up to the sky
I know I'll be alright

Another Board Game Night Update

I moved my test from Wednesday to Monday (OMG OMG OMG it's tomorrow), so we can now have the Tuesday, July 15th board game night at our house again.

I know Karina and Datrick are out of town, but I think Durham, Goldie and May are around, so please let us know if anyone is interested.

Wish me luck!

Naked men and corporate conspiracies

I started orientation for work last week. It was so hideously boring, but I am quite happy to actually have real money I'm bringing in. My first test is on Wednesday, so I'm trying to do some final review for that, and then I start full time the following week. I'm kinda nervous to start, just cause there's so much to learn all at once, but I think I'll pick it up quickly.

I had to do orientation with a teenager and another young guy who will work out in the general store, and they made me feel very old. The teenager was tiny, didn't have a driver's license yet, didn't know what direct deposit was, and wasn't even sure if he had a bank account or not. The guy in his early twenties worked for Walmart previously, and he had injured his back there. They wouldn't let him do worker's comp, but they paid for some medical visits. After he was done getting treatment, his boss told him to change a sign over the cart storage area. The only way to get to the sign was to climb on the carts or move all of them and get a ladder. His boss told him to just climb on the carts, and so he did. Next day he got called in and was fired to breaking store policy. He explained that he was told to do so by his boss, who was visible in the video footage. She claimed she was telling him to get down, that she never said to do it in the first place. So he got fired. It was a good setup so the company couldn't get sued. Pretty slimy business, but not terribly surprising from that company.

On Thursday I was doing some computer learning stuff at work, and the men's bathroom was right across the hall from me. Apparently, a guy went in there and took off all his clothes and refused to put them back on. After an hour of security people failing to get him out, they had to call the cops. Somehow, they figured out who he was and called his son (I guess he was an older guy) who came and convinced him to get dressed and go home with him. Man, it sucks getting old. I don't want to get to a point where I get naked in public restrooms and have no idea where I am and need my kids to come get me.

End in sight

Today was my last official day of school ever. I say official because I have to study for two big tests to become a licensed pharmacist and go to a review, but I don't have to go any more classes or any more rotations. I get excited in bursts, but mostly it doesn't feel real. I'm going to be a "doctor" in two weeks exactly. Whoa. I've been in school for so long I hardly know what else to do with myself. Everyone says I will miss college once I start working, but that's hard to picture right now. I'm so done.

Congrats to Goldie and Jen on finishing school soon too!

Dude, where's my car?

I carpool with another student to work because the rotation site is at a hospital that's about an hour away. Today was the other student's day to drive, so I left our car on the street in front of our apartment where we had parked last night. When she pulled up to drop me off, I noticed that my car was missing.

Now, I wouldn't have thought much, except that it was rush hour and Adam won't drive during that time unless it's life or death. So I called Adam to see if he had parked it somewhere else, but he didn't answer. I was a little concerned, but went upstairs. Adam was home but hadn't heard his phone. I asked him if he had gone somewhere or moved the car and he hadn't. Okay, now I'm freaking out because I'm thinking someone stole the car. Then we realize that the reason it jumped out at me that the car was gone was that the street was almost empty...oh yeah, we got towed because of street cleaning! Apparently, today is the third Tuesday of the month despite being just the 15th.

Freaking 3 phone calls to track down the car, $115 and asking a friend for a ride later our car is back. Now we get to pay the $25 parking ticket. At least it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be or stolen...

Boston is death on parking. I'm really ready to move. 17 days to graduation!
